Remaking sequels is becoming a popular trend when it comes to horror films in the first decade of the twenty-first century. It’s 2007 and already you’ve had remakes of “Dawn of the Dead,†“The Ring 2,†“The Grudge 2†and now “The Hills Have Eyes II†(first made in 1985.) After seeing this latest exercise in re-sequeling the phrase “quit while you’re ahead†comes to mind. Continue reading The Hills Have Eyes II

Just in the interest of the few people who are reading and/or helping write this site who may not have seen this this yet, I’ll go ahead and only talk about the finale after the jump. Follow at your own risk.

Here’s a list of new and notable DVDs this week (3/27/07) that you might not of heard of or might of missed when they were in the theater.
Children of Men — Not nearly enough people saw this movie due to a massive publicity fuck up on the part of Universal. This is by far the best movie that came out last year which is saying a lot for a year that included “The Departed.” I urge everyone to check this film out and try to give it a second life on DVD (where most of the money is made anyway.) Extras include the featurette “The Possibility of Hope” with comments from several futurist scholars (27 min.), “‘Children of Men’ comments by Slavoj Zizek,” a philosopher and cultural critic (5 min.), “Under Attack” with a look at the film’s long takes (7 min.), “Theo and Julian” (4 min.), “Futuristic Design” (8 min.), “Visual Effects: Creating the Baby” (3 min.), and a deleted scenes reel (3 min.). No, I don’t mean that Logan gets homicidally jealous after seeing her with Piz… Kristin Veitch of E! now puts Veronica Mars in the category of “Looking Doomed” for a return in the Fall. I think Kristin Bell probably would want to die if VM gets canceled and part of the reason is the success of its midseason replacement, The Pussycat Dolls: The Search for the Next Doll.
While you’re pondering this, hop on the FREE WALLACE bandwagon…

Ted can’t believe it either
Anna Johns at TV Squad speculates that How I Met Your Mother was the subject of a hint earlier this week by TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello about a CBS comedy being in hot water.
Ausiello points out that the real problem is that nobody in the world considers the show in question as being on the bubble. With 10 million viewers the last few weeks, HIMYM (I love spelling it that way because it looks like one of the ineffable names) seems to be here to stay. It is a fabulous show. It will make you love straight sitcoms again. Neil Patrick Harris’ womanizing Barney character alone is reason to watch. Check it out Monday at 8 p.m. and then sign the petition to save it.

Via [H]ard|OCP (try saying that 5x fast)…
Sony launched its PS3 console in Europe and Australia with somewhat mixed results. Some lucky gamers got a free 42†Sony TVs to go along with their new PS3 and free cab rides to avoid being mugged.
In the basement of Virgin Megastore’s flagship London outlet, hardcore video game fans who waited in line for more than a day for the midnight launch were rewarded by Sony, which gifted each of the first 125 a new 42-inch Sony TV. Virgin Megastore said it had booked extra security and free taxis to whisk gamers home and avoid them falling prey to muggers.

Dick and Dirk
Today TV Week is reporting that SciFi Channel has extended the order for Battlestar Galactica’s fourth season to 22 episodes. I didn’t know until I read this writeup that the season order would include the planned movie which will be shot this summer and go straight to DVD.
The obvious worry for fans is that the extension gives SciFi the flexibility to get producers to wrap up the show with season 4. I don’t think this is confirmation that this will happen, but it is probably very likely that SciFi wanted that ace in its pocket if ratings continue to be low.
I’m still wondering how they will make good on their promise that one character will find Earth this season (this was promised in promos for the second half of the season which is on now). I definitely think Colonel Tigh’s phantom radio signal is being transmitted from Earth, and that they will figure this out and that’s how they’ll “find” earth. But who will be the Cylon?

I’ve long held to the position that Terry O’Quinn is the reason to watch ABC’s “Lost.†This is no more evident than in last night’s episode “The Man From Tallahassee†which focused on O’Quinn’s character John Locke and how he ended up in that wheelchair. TechCrunch is reporting that a massive joint venture between “at least a dozen” TV networks–including Fox and NBC–as well as film studios is planning to launch “the largest Internet video distribution network ever assembled with the most sought-after content from television and film.”
With full episodes of current shows and community site features like playlists and mashups, this could obviously be huge.
