TiVo, Bittorrent and spoilers

A friend of a friend yesterday popped up on IM and with 3 words, spoiled an earth-shattering plot twist on this week’s “Battlestar Galactica.” It was Monday afternoon and I had not seen the show, which aired on Sunday at 10 p.m. It will probably go down as one of the the biggest sea changes in the show’s run, and now my head is poisoned with the foreknowledge of it.
I’m trying to put my rage to good use by opening this up to you, readers: What are your thoughts on TV spoiler ettiquette in this age of DVRs and torrents? My own rule is very generic, because I believe it depends on the TV watcher in question. Some people are a week behind on some shows, so I think in all cases it is imperative to check yourself before you wreck yourself. A simple “seen bsg?” on IM would have sufficed in this case.
What say you?

Reading this, I was like “meh (super popular word), it happens”
Then I went to DIGG and saw a posting describing what I’m assuming it is you are referring to in your post in its headline. I haven’t caught up on my BSG and now I’m just as poisoned.
I think the “seen bsg?” question should extend to blogs as well… tag the thing with a SPOILER ALERT before just blurting it out there.
I’m having a hard time putting my rage to good use right now. I did not need to see this headline…
